How do you set an acer aspire one netbook to automatically connect to an external monitor?

ok so I had the same muddle, let's just say I "accidentally" on the skids the screen of my old laptop, but I still needed to be able to see the curtain, so I hooked it up to the monitor of my old pc, using the cable that it comes with. it's like a malignant cable, and the ends are blue, (i dont have knowledge of the name of it cuz im not that tech-y), but you get what i mean right?

I am using an Acer Aspire 5542 with a Hanns-G HW191A 19" monitor and Windows 7 x64. The monitor acclimatized to work just fine at it's native notion of 1440x900, but when playing a game the monitor mooring was pulled out and since then 1440x900 does not show up on the resolve list or in catalyst control center. I can see 1600x1200, 1400x1050, 1366x768, 1280x1024, 1280x800, 1280x768, 1280x720, 1152x864, 1024x768, 1024x600, and 800x600. I am using 1280x768 currently, 1366x768 and 1280x1024 drudgery too...
