how do I replace ide hard drive to sata hard drive in a laptop?

I have a Dell Latitude D810 with IDE hard drive and would like how to return it with a SATA hard drive. I would like to switch because SATA drives are larger then IDE drives.

You don't. You don't have a Sata controller for an internal Sata harddrive

This is not reasonable. The connector on the laptop system board is hard wired and can not be changed.

IDE laptop hard drives are still to hand but your best bet is to use an external USB/eSATA hard drive. I picked up a 1 Tb drive for $95 a few months ago.
