any sanity not to get a gateway fx laptop? its got lots of features like gtx260 video be direct and tons of other features,,and its on sale!! but is gateways in the 1000 dollar spread as good as the rest in that range?

Gateways have superb components but their builds are horrible and you'll have errors, or floppy hinges in no in unison a all the same. The Asus G51J is in that price range with the same components, but the nature is Asus is a parts manufacturer which uses great quality parts in their notebooks. I suggest you look into them.
