Can a HP G70 Laptop handle more than 4GB of memory on Windows 7 64 bit?

I have a HP G70 Laptop with 2GB and 1GB DDR2 retention modules. I wanted to replace the 1GB module with a 4GB one and connect Windows 7 64bit. HP say 2gb modules max (poss coz 4gb modules didn't remain when it was made) . Will the HP BIOS recognize the module?
What do you infer 64 bit Windows will do for you? You have 3 GB which is plenty for 32 bit Windows 7. You could place the extra 1 GB that the motherboard might handle and no it won't recognise a 4 GB push, but I don't see the point myself. Running a 64 bit OS brings a whole new set of problems to the tabulation, like finding suitable drivers and getting older programs to employment.
