I am a Software Engineering freshman, and I am looking into structure a desktop that will last me through the rest of my 3 years in college and a few years into a business as a software engineer. I have two systems designed get even for now, both having 3 1TB hard drives to run Windows, Mac, and Linux. I have one designed with Intel's Core i7 920 and one designed with Intel's Core 2 Quad Q9550.
The hinterland with the I7, you will never have any issues and your PC will be upto date. Quads are still in don't get me wrong but between these 2, the i7 is way faster, you can even see the diversity in speed. Amazing processor, if you have the money, go for the i7. If not then go for the quad Q9550 2.83 and Overclock it.
