what's better for my notebook its factory hard drive or Intel x25-m ssd 160gb?

I have a ASUS g73jh-a1 gaming laptop with all mill settings except i have 12gb of ram i use it for strictly gaming i was told by a crony that solid state drives are better than okay hard drives in my case though i think my keen drive is pretty powerful and i don't know anything about authentic state drives will it effect my gaming or avail its performance? and will it effect my memory on my pc?
