I have a Toshiba. It has Windows 7. It also has a decal that says "sidekick". I don't know if that helps. I have to put my ear with in a foot of the computer to assent to any volume and the room must be perfectly quiet. I bought a insignificant external speaker that helps, but not a lot. The screen icon for book say that it's at 100%. I'm having too much trouble listening to movies.
Should be a mass up bar on your laptop somewhere which turns the speakers up and down in addition to volume pilot, make sure the wav volume etc is all at max.
